HUP! Extension
HUP! Extension
This project demonstrates how modern methods of construction can provide significant benefits without compromising the client's vision. Following almost two years of discussions between the client, architect, structural engineer and various contractors, the scheme evolved into a highly efficient HUP! extension that delivered the desired design while substantially reducing construction costs.
One of the biggest challenges was finding a way to retain the proposed design without the extensive structural steelwork originally specified. Through close collaboration with the design team and a thorough review of the construction methodology, we were able to reduce the steel requirements from nine structural steel beams to just one, simplifying the build process and delivering a saving of almost £20,000 compared to a traditionally constructed extension.
The extension features a striking corner glazed unit & glazed gable, creating a bright and welcoming space with uninterrupted views of the garden. Combined with the excellent thermal performance of the HUP! system, the new room provides a comfortable and energy-efficient addition to the home while maintaining a clean, contemporary appearance.
This project highlights the value of contractor involvement during the pre-construction phase, demonstrating how practical construction knowledge and modern building systems can achieve substantial savings while preserving the outcome the client originally set out to achieve.
